The Rules
Prompt: Be on time to class. Most instruction happens the first 10 minutes.
Prepared: Have your materials. I won't ask you to bring anything unreasonable, so please bring it if I ask you to.
Positive: Everyone has bad days, but try to stay positive. Be proactive if you know you're not feeling great- let me know.
Productive: You are in art class. You need to do art. If you feel like you are finished, see me first- this class is set up so that you always have something to work on.
Polite: I will always try my best to treat you with respect. I ask the same of everyone in class.
If you are ever having trouble, please come see me. I am here for YOU, that's my job!
Class Expectations
Materials
There is a $30 membership due at the beginning of the year, or $15/semester. AP supplies are better quality and more expensive. Paying your membership ensures you get to use a wide variety of materials to work with. If you do not pay the fee, you will be responsible for purchasing and bringing in your own supplies. In an envelope labeled with the student's name, please include membership in cash or a check made out to Wekiva High School.
Assignments
I expect you to give your work your best effort. This is a college-level course: assignments should take time and effort. You will need to plan ahead and make time to get your work done. Some of the work will have to be finished from home. Start building a cache of supplies at home.
Cleanup
This is a shared space. You are responsible for cleaning up after yourself. I will ask you from time to time to help in keeping the studio clean, but I will not be cleaning up after you. Everyone makes the mess, everyone cleans up.
Sketchbooks
You will have a sketchbook assignment every week. There is a list of prompts on your Assignments page. Sketchbook assignments must be in your sketchbook. I will not accept loose sheets of paper. You need to fill a 2-page spread. Sketchbook assignments can turn into Breadth and Concentration pieces, so please take them seriously. You should be taking your sketchbook with you everywhere you go. I would urge you to draw and work in your sketchbook as much as you can- don't limit yourself to just the assignments.
Late Work
No name= 5% off
One day late = 10% off
After that= 50% off
I will not accept work that is over one week old.
Points lost for late work or no name papers will not be reassessed.
**County policy states that if you are assigned a project and have 2+ weeks of advanced notice, that project is due on the due date even if you are absent.
Cell Phones
I believe that cell phones are simply a way of life. They can be very useful tools, and I understand the needs of people to communicate with one another. The cell phone policy in the studio reflects this. When you enter my class you will place your cell phone in the numbered pockets next to my desk. You are not banned from using the phone, but if you are using it, you must be by my desk. I will be following the same policy.
Safety
The nature of the studio means working with a variety of tools and materials. Our #1 priority is safety. Learn to use the tools properly, keep your work area clean and organizer, and be aware of what others are doing around you. If you have any questions or miss a demonstration, please ask me. I am here to help YOU!
